Bearing Maintenance for Your Trailer

FLYING TIRES!?!

It may sound interesting, however when you are driving down the road and your tire passes you, it might be an indication that you have not only an unwanted delay, but now your plans have been completely derailed.

Keeping your bearings packed, is a very important maintenance item that can help keep you rolling and is one area that some trailer owners largely overlook. This is not just important on horse trailers, but all types including flatbeds, boat trailers, and RV’s.

Bearings, when not packed and properly maintained can lead to damage to both wheels and axles resulting in very costly repairs. National Trailer Source recommends that bearings are packed and checked at least once a year and more if the trailer is used extensively.

All of us have heard the story; I had the bearings packed just before I parked it and two years later decided to take it somewhere and the wheel falls off. The reason is grease ages and dries out, when it does this, it doesn’t protect the bearings and keep things moving properly. The bottom line is a regular bearing pack and replacement of worn bearings will keep you rolling down the road safer and the wheels under you.
